• AND identifies volumes that contain all the words entered (the blank space between the research terms has the value of and)
• OR selects all documents with at least one of the words entered
• NOT identifies all documents that contain the first word but not the second one
  
  Other logical operators within the same search expression can be used by placing parentheses around the terms that relate to each operator, as in the following examples.

• ADJ identifies all documents with the desired words adjacent to each other
• NEAR selects all documents with the desired words within 10 terms of each other termini

• ? can replace any letter and can be added at any point in the word
• * replaces a number of characters and can be used with word roots

Note: Remember that the apostrophe must be omitted and replaced with a blank space and that accented characters must be typed without an accent.
